Will A Distance Learning College Give Me A Valuable Education?
Linda Harrison
After I graduated from high school, I knew that getting a college education was a steppingstone to a prosperous life. Unfortunately, the mighty paycheck and the seduction of living independently overshadowed my attempt to go to college. When I began researching my options for earning a college degree, I remember looking at books at a local library and to my amazement; I found a book that described how to earn college credits without physically going to a brick and mortar school. This was my introduction to a distance learning college.
If a student thinks that earning a college degree at a distance learning college is easy and unchallenging, they should realize that only highly motivated, self-disciplined students succeed. Reading and writing skills need to be higher than the remedial level because these skills are the main tools for learning new subjects or extending their existing knowledge of a basic course. It takes maturity and determination to complete assignments without the constant monitoring of an instructor.
The career that you want to pursue should be carefully matched with a college or university that can provide a curriculum that is recognized and accepted by leaders in a particular field of study. Certification agencies will usually specify which schools will meet the educational requirements. You cannot afford to ignore this information because it could end up being a very costly mistake if you enroll in the wrong school. A distance learning college will not always be suitable for all professions. Buyers beware. There are colleges for everyone who wants an education. It is up to you to be an informed consumer when selecting a school.
Distance education can be a solution for serious students who want to further their education. Remember, careful planning and wise choices will guide you to the right school.
